Social media infographic displays marketers’ grip on ever-changing channel

For marketers, honing their skill with the social media channel is like nailing jelly to a tree or herding cats. The channel is ever-changing and evolving and research among those working in social media reveals many marketers have gaps in their knowledge, as a new infographic shows. It’s essential the gaps are filled.

Who are the social media experts? Where do they polish their skills? Can marketers keep abreast of the challenges ever-changing platforms present?

Success with social media as a marketing channel can be measured, but as a marketing skill it is nebulous, intangible – honing it is like nailing jelly to a tree; herding cats. The UK DMA’S Social Media Council conducted research among those working in social media, measuring their knowledge to learn where the average marketer is right now, to test what it is these ‘experts’ really know.Social media infographic

Julie Atherton (pictured), chairman of the DMA Social Media Council, said: “The research shows the maturity of social media. No longer the responsibility of a specialist department, knowledge and skills in social are essential for all marketers in building strong customer-focused brands.”

Does your job title reveal how much you know about this powerful channel or is the battle to keep up with it exhausting for all – from entry level to the boardroom? View the DMA’s social media infographic below, or check it out here.
